Join us for the Cook County Higher Education Fundraiser and Royal Tea Talk on October 3 at the Johnson Heritage Post. CCHE Board Member and Historian Dr. Karen Halbersleben will captivate the audience with her presentation, “Three and a Half Royal Love Affairs that Changed History.”

Did you know that over 500-years of national hatred and warfare between England and France originated in Royal love and marriage turned sour?
Did you know that today’s British Royal Family owes its claim to the throne to a scandalous love affair between a Medieval Royal Prince and his children’s governess?!
Did you know how close England came to having a King who was a Nazi sympathizer during the pivotal 13 months when England stood alone against Hitler’s war machine?

Love is a powerful emotion. Imagine if every aspect of your love life was fodder for endless public discussion and debate and, even worse, might be studied by historians for years even after your death! What if your romantic decisions—the good, the bad, and the ugly—had the power to influence history itself? Such is part of the price the British Royal family pays for being born into lives of unearned wealth and privilege. This year’s Tea Talk will explore three (and a half) Royal love stories which changed the lives not just of the people involved, but also would alter history for the British people and Europe itself right up to the present. Join us at this year’s Tea to learn all the juicy details!

This special evening will be filled with enjoyment and goodwill as we gather to support CCHE’s efforts of inspiring, preparing, and empowering individuals to achieve their educational, career, and personal goals. Your presence and contributions will make a lasting impact.

Ticket Options:

General Admission – $50
Includes full access to all of the evening’s activities.
Royal Package – $75
Adds a celebratory swag bag inspired by English love, a special glass of sherry to enjoy, and the privilege of early seating for the presentation.

The evening will also feature a hat raffle, desserts and beverages, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, fancy hat rental, and a silent auction, including “fund-a-need” opportunities to support CCHE’s community impacting programs (including a NEW Mark Abrahamson Scholarship).

The Royal Tea is a delightful, semi-formal event. Traditional British tea headwear is encouraged, with hats available for rent.
