Nature apps: Everyone knows a little, together we know a lot! (iNat & EDDMapS Presentation)
June 12 | Noon-1pm | Zoom
Presenters & Partners: Megan Weber & Andrea Lorek Strauss, University of Minnesota Extension and Cook County SWCD
Do you wish you had a biologist along with you as you explore nature to tell you what you’re seeing? In our increasingly connected world, many of us can come pretty close! We’ll share two of these tools available as apps you can download on your mobile device (or access on your home computer). With the iNaturalist app you simply upload snapshots of species you see, then identify it or use the in-app tools to figure out what it is. EDDMapS is a tool you can use to help document the presence of non-native and invasive species you find and report them to regulatory agencies. Join Andrea and Megan as they share how these apps work and the best practices to get the most out of them. Have a smartphone or tablet handy if possible.
We suggest that participants pre-download these two apps and make username/password accounts so you can play along during the presentation.
