Description

Layperson Naloxone (NARCAN) Training
April 29 | 4:15-5:15 PM | FREE | At CCHE
Instructor: Rob Wells

The Layperson Naloxone (NARCAN - a drug brand name) training will teach you how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone (generic name). In the face of increasing overdose deaths, from medically prescribed opioids, fentanyl, and heroin, a wide range of people may benefit from increased access to naloxone and naloxone training.

Naloxone quickly reverses an overdose by blocking the effects of opioids. It can restore normal breathing within 2 to 3 minutes in a person whose breathing has slowed, or even stopped, as a result of opioid overdose.

One study found that bystanders were present in more than one in three overdoses involving opioids. With the right tools, bystanders can act to prevent overdose deaths. Anyone can carry naloxone, give it to someone experiencing an overdose, and potentially save a life.

This optional training is not an American Red Cross training. CCHE can provide a certificate of hours of training completed on request.

Thank you to Public Health and Human Services for their partnership on this event.

This session may go longer than 1 hour based on addressing questions in the class.

December 11, 2023 – The Cook County Sherrif’s Office and Public Health and Human Services Department issued a public service announcement regarding substances including Xylazine and Fentanyl in the drug supply in Duluth, Lake County, and Cook County and how to access overdose-prevention materials locally.
