Description

Understanding Domestic Violence
April 27th | 5:30pm-7pm | FREE | Zoom
Presenter: Jessica Burks, Violence Prevent Center  Program Advocate

Join us to learn about the dynamics of domestic violence with the Violence Prevention Center in Cook County. Ask questions. Hear about ways you can help make a difference!

In this community webinar, participants will gain a better understanding of domestic violence: what domestic violence is, the dynamics of abuse, how domestic violence impacts the local community, and ways that each of us can support victims/survivors in our lives and in our community. This is an opportunity to learn more about a topic that is often misunderstood, but affects more than 10 million victims/survivors of abuse every year in the U.S. We can all benefit from deepening our understanding of domestic violence. Understanding domestic violence is key to being able to recognize red flags, to offering support to victims/survivors in your life, and creating a culture where healthy and respectful relationships are the norm. A widespread lack of understanding of the dynamics and impacts of abuse negatively impacts victims/survivors and allows perpetrators to continue using abuse. When we gain a better understanding of these dynamics and impacts, we are better able to offer support and solidarity to victims/survivors. Join us as we tackle this topic and learn together what domestic violence is, what the dynamics of abuse are, how domestic violence impacts us locally, and what you can do to support victims/survivors in your life. There will be plenty of opportunities for questions and comments - we hope to start a community conversation about domestic violence.

We hope this learning opportunity also provides a deeper dive into one of the topics included in the January & February Cook County Read: The Vanishing Half.
