Cook County Local Energy Project is excited to host this workshop on best construction practices and codes for residential construction. Rum River will be presenting the 2023 Building Blocks - Code Talk. Topics Include Shallow Frost Protected Foundations, Building Planning, Helical Piles & Foundations, Roofing, Siding, Lead Based Paint Rules, and Code Administration. Rum River works to provide excellent training opportunities to ensure construction methods meet standards for a safe, durable, and energy-efficient building. Presentation materials are backed by the adopted Minnesota State Building Code.

Anyone who works with residential construction is encouraged to attend. 

We also welcome homeowners who are thinking about building a home to attend this workshop to learn more about the home-building process and codes. This course is also open to all builder professionals and interested persons who do not need continuing education credits.

  • Course content must demonstrate significant intellectual or practical content and deal with matters directly related to residential construction, workforce safety, or the business of running a company in the residential construction industry.

  • 14 hours of appropriate and related knowledge in residential construction, including applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.

  • Individuals can determine their personal qualifying person identification number at the state License Lookup by searching their contractor's license number or their name.

  • One hour of the 14 hours must include instruction related to energy codes or energy conservation measures applicable to residential structure and one hour of business management strategies applicable to residential construction businesses.

Since licenses are renewed every two years, you have two years to acquire the continuing education credits. Many residential building contractor and remodeler business licenses expire on March 31, 2023. Cook County Local Energy Project is a local response to the worldwide transition away from fossil fuel-based energy sources. In August 2009, CCLEP received its 501c3 non-profit designation. CCLEP has worked on a variety of energy projects including renewable energy solar installations, wind studies, and energy efficiency and energy education programs. A comprehensive Cook County and Grand Marais Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Plan were completed in 2012.
