DIY Make & Take Air Purification System Workshop - Clean Air Together!
August 25 | Two Session Options: 5-6pm or 6-7pm
Join us for a hands-on DIY air filter building Workshop. Learn how to build your own high-efficiency Corsi-Rosenthal air purifier to protect your home or building from wildfire smoke or other air pollution. No experience needed, we will guide you through every step of the process!
Sign up for either the 5:00–6:00 PM or 6:00–7:00 PM workshop. You'll move through a series of hands-on stations to build your own box fan air filter, then leave with a custom-built filter system ready to help improve air quality wherever you choose to use it.
All supplies needed to build your air filtration system will be provided (supplies would usually cost between $50-100 dollars). If you'd like to bring your own materials to personalize or customize your build, you're welcome to do so!
The workshop will be led by University of Minnesota Extension Educator Seth Spencer, who works on climate adaptation and emergency preparedness in northeastern Minnesota as part of the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership. Through this work, Seth provides resources and education to help communities respond to changing climate conditions and prepare for the future.
Community support is helping make this workshop possible:
- Northwoods Sustainable Housing is providing event support. https://
northwoodssustainablehousing. weebly.com/ - Cook County Higher Education (CCHE) is funding materials needed to build the DIY air filter systems (fans, filters, duct tape).
- Sam Usem of Sisu and Loyly Nordic Sauna & Vital North Foundation is providing approx 30 3M air filters that will be used in the DIY air filter systems.
This came together thanks to strong community partnerships and communication, with many individuals, local agencies, organizations, and other community partners helping turn shared ideas into action. Some of the community partners supporting this effort are highlighted below.
